Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking an experienced Hardware Architect to join a high-performing team focused on developing innovative hardware solutions for the retail industry. This role will provide architecture leadership across assigned retail technology domains, including I/O devices, printers, cameras, mobile devices, innovation technology projects, and memory/SSD technology guidance. This position will serve as a key technical leader from concept through product release, working across engineering, product management, procurement, test, support, suppliers, and portfolio teams to deliver reliable, customer-focused solutions.
The Hardware Architect will own product architecture decisions for assigned technology areas, create technical specifications, guide supplier and commodity strategies, resolve complex technical issues, and ensure designs meet customer, business, quality, serviceability, cost, and lifecycle expectations. The role will require strong cross-functional influence and the ability to connect technical depth with business needs, especially in areas that impact platform reliability, component qualification, technology roadmap decisions, and long-term product support.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the architecture owner for assigned hardware domains, including printers, cameras, mobile devices, I/O devices, and innovation technology projects.
- Create product architecture definitions, design specifications, technical requirements, and decision records for assigned products and commodities.
- Lead technical tradeoff discussions involving functionality, performance, reliability, cost, manufacturability, serviceability, lifecycle risk, and customer requirements.
- Act as the primary subject matter expert for assigned products and technologies throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept and planning through withdrawal from marketing and post-release support.
- Partner with product management, portfolio, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial design, human factors, system software, hardware test, support, procurement, and supplier teams to deliver complete product solutions.
- Provide technical guidance for memory and SSD commodity selection, qualification, supplier engagement, risk assessment, and lifecycle management.
- Work with hardware test and procurement teams to guide decisions on critical core commodities, including storage and memory technologies.
- Evaluate potential external suppliers, participate in supplier selection, and collaborate with selected suppliers to resolve technical gaps, quality issues, and roadmap alignment.
- Provide technical leadership for I/O device architecture, including cameras, printers, and related peripheral technologies.
- Support innovation technology projects by assessing new technologies, identifying practical retail use cases, and translating concepts into viable product architecture recommendations.
- Identify and resolve hardware engineering process gaps, technical risks, design issues, and cross-functional execution challenges.
- Partner with test and support teams to ensure RCA rigor, field issue learning, and quality feedback are incorporated into future designs.
- Influence architecture standards, commodity strategies, design reuse opportunities, and platform-level consistency across product families.
- Participate in patent disclosures and help grow Toshiba's intellectual property portfolio.

Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8 or more years of experience in hardware engineering, hardware architecture, product development, platform engineering, or new product introduction.
- Demonstrated ability to lead architecture decisions across complex products or technology domains.
- Strong understanding of hardware design principles, product lifecycle execution, component qualification, supplier engagement, and cross-functional product development.
- Experience creating technical specifications, product requirements, design documentation, risk assessments, and architecture recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to work across global teams, including engineering, test, procurement, product management, support, and external suppliers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve ambiguous and complex technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with executives, technical leaders, engineers, suppliers, and business stakeholders.
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced global environment.
- Strong risk management, change management, and technical decision-making skills.
- Experience with defect tracking systems, project execution methods, technical review processes, and Microsoft Office tools.

Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with retail technology platforms, POS systems, self-checkout products, payment-adjacent systems, or customer-facing edge devices.
- Knowledge of printers, cameras, mobile computing platforms, I/O devices, storage devices, or memory technologies.
- Experience with SSD and memory supplier qualification, firmware considerations, lifecycle risk, commodity strategy, or field reliability analysis.
- Experience working with hardware test teams on qualification strategy, issue reproduction, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Familiarity with PCI-related hardware design considerations, retail system certifications, or regulated hardware environments.
- Experience assessing emerging technologies and converting innovation concepts into practical product architecture recommendations.
- Experience supporting global suppliers, ODMs, contract manufacturers, or distributed engineering teams.
- Aptitude for improving engineering practices, design standards, documentation quality, and cross-functional decision processes.
