Full-time/Part-time Research Assistant(s) (AI research and development)

The English Language Teaching Unit invites applications for full-time/part-time Research Assistant(s) to support artificial intelligence research and development projects.

Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline (ii) solid programming experience, with proficiency in Python (experience with other languages such as JavaScript/TypeScript is an advantage) (iii) familiarity with AI concepts and methods, including large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), machine learning, and statistical methods (iv) experience with web development (front-end and back-end), using frameworks such as React, Vue, Node.js, Django, or Flask (v) prior experience supporting research and development projects (vi) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Cantonese preferred (vii) the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and (viii) a strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and high self-motivation.

The appointee(s) will be responsible for (a) designing, developing, and testing AI tools, prototypes, and applications for projects related to AI in language education and higher education (b) undertaking full-stack web development (front-end and back-end), including building and maintaining web applications, user interfaces, APIs, and databases (c) conducting AI-related research, including reviewing literature, designing and running experiments, building and evaluating models, and analysing data using advanced statistical methods (d) providing research support, such as data preparation, documentation, and report preparation and (e) performing other research-related and administrative duties as assigned.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to one year commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to satisfactory performance, operational needs, and funding availability.
