Role Description

This is a full-time remote role for a Founding Lead Engineer based in Taiwan. You'll be our first Taiwan-based engineer, working directly with US-based founders (CTO and CEO) to build our core AI platform from the ground up.

This role requires strong async communication skills and comfort with US-Taiwan timezone coordination (1-2 hours daily overlap, heavy reliance on written communication). You'll own technical architecture decisions, build production AI/LLM systems, and eventually hire and lead a team of 3-5 engineers as we grow.

This is a true founding engineer rolehigh autonomy, high ambiguity, and high impact. You should be comfortable making decisions without perfect information and shipping quickly while maintaining quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years backend development (Python strongly preferred), including 3+ years in senior/lead roles
• Production experience building AI/LLM systems (RAG, embeddings, prompt engineeringnot just experimentation)
• Fluent/business-level English for daily async collaboration with US founders
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers
• Daily use of AI coding assistants (Claude, Codex, Gemini, Cursor, Copilot) in your development workflow
• Comfort with ambiguity and making technical decisions without complete specifications

Preferred

• Startup experience, especially 0-to-1 product building
• Experience with workflow orchestration (Temporal), document processing, or email integrations
• Full-stack capabilities (React is a plus, not required)
• Familiarity with regulated industries (legal, healthcare, finance)
• Bachelor's/Master's in CS or equivalent practical experience

Salary Range

• USD $72,000$120,000 / NTD 2,200,000-3,700,000 + equity
