Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership & Decision-Making
- Drive technical direction and architectural decisions for backend systems, ensuring alignment with business goals and long-term scalability.
- Set coding and design standards, and ensure consistent adherence across the engineering team.
- Evaluate and adopt appropriate technologies, tools, and frameworks to continuously improve engineering velocity and system quality.
2. Team Development & Mentorship
- Mentor and support backend engineers, providing technical guidance and career growth feedback.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing, skill development, and peer learning within the team.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
3. Project Delivery & Collaboration
- Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering leads to define clear technical scopes and execution plans.
- Oversee the delivery of critical backend features, ensuring high reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical risks, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies.
4. System Architecture & Technical Excellence
- Lead the design and evolution of scalable, resilient backend architecture to support product expansion and internationalization.
- Drive initiatives for refactoring, performance tuning, and system reliability.
- Establish and enforce high standards in code quality, security, and testing practices.
5. Cross-Functional and International Collaboration
- Work closely with global engineering counterparts to coordinate system integration, shared services, and platform evolution.
- Align with cross-functional teams on roadmap planning, technical feasibility, and system dependencies.
- Represent backend engineering in leadership discussions and technical strategy reviews.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
- At least 5 years of backend development experience, including 2+ years leading engineers or tech-leads.
- Proficiency in 1-2 backend development languages (Java preferred).
- Strong understanding and practical experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
- Experience with microservices architecture is a plus.
- Familiarity with RDBMS databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and caching technologies (e.g., Redis, Memcached).
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD processes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional and international teams, while sharing technical expertise.
