Job Description

Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong () is a forward-looking and intellectually vigorous university with the mission to be a first-class comprehensive research university, regionally and internationally. The 138.4-hectare campus overlooking Tolo Harbour is the largest and greenest in Hong Kong. With over 165 buildings, the University houses a range of facilities essential for an all-round campus experience, such as world-class libraries, art museums, music halls, swimming pool, sports fields and courts for ball games, in addition to classrooms, laboratories and lecture theatres.Reporting to the Vice-President (Administration) and managing a workforce of over 300, the Director will lead the Estates Management Office and oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the University's sizeable physical plant including, inter-alia, all types of engineering services, scavenging, cleansing, removal services, landscaping, gardening and tree management, etc. and all repair maintenance and renovation works relating to the campus buildings, plants, installations and grounds, with a view to maintaining a stimulating and sustainable environment. The Director will also lead the Estates Management Office to collaborate with the University's other offices in planning, appraisals and project implementation works.The appointee will be responsible for ensuring effective management and smooth operation of the University's estate without interruption to essential services, establishing appropriate maintenance procedures/programmes, evaluation of maintenance proposals and preparing specifications of maintenance works. Other key duties include close coordination and communication with client units to facilitate effective service delivery and ensuring workplace safety in adherence to the relevant regulations in daily operation. Liaison with relevant government bodies and other institutions will be required. The appointee will be expected to lead the strategic planning and implementation in estates, facilities and infrastructure enhancement and management of the University and contribute to achieving the University's goals and missions in sustainability campus planning and development.Applicants should have (i) a good University degree and/or equivalent professional qualifications in facilities management, architecture, engineering and/or surveying, etc. full membership of professional bodies will be an advantage (ii) the ability to handle estate management crisis and bring in AI and automation in the facilities management cycle and process (iii) professional experience in estates and facilities management with proven track record of developing and delivering strategies in a complex estate environment (iv) the capacity to manage effectively a workforce varying in professional knowledge and education background (v) sound judgment, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and (vi) excellent command of both English and Chinese (including Putonghua).Appointment to the Directorship will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, renewable subject to mutual agreement.The University reserves the right to fill the post by invitation/nomination.The University only accepts and considers applications submitted online for the post above via the CUHK career site.
