Role Overview
AmCham Taiwan is seeking an experienced Director of Government and Public Affairs to lead the Chamber's advocacy strategy, government engagement, and policy initiatives.
This role is responsible for advancing AmCham Taiwan's policy priorities, strengthening relationships with key stakeholders, and supporting the development of high-impact advocacy platforms, particularly the Taiwan White Paper and the Washington Doorknock program. The Director works closely with internal teams, member companies, and public sector counterparts to drive meaningful policy outcomes that support the business community.
The position also serves as a key advisor to the President and contributes to the Chamber's broader strategic direction through effective policy leadership and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Advocacy Leadership & Policy Development
- Lead the development and execution of AmCham Taiwan's advocacy strategies and policy initiatives
- Serve as a key policy advisor to the President and Board of Governors
- Identify and prioritize policy issues impacting the Chamber's members
- Represent the Chamber in high-level policy discussions and engagements
White Paper & Policy Coordination
- Lead and coordinate the development of the Taiwan White Paper, working closely with AmCham committees and member companies
- Guide committees in identifying policy priorities and developing actionable recommendations
- Facilitate engagement with government stakeholders to advance policy proposals
- Support follow-up and resolution of advocacy issues throughout the year
U.S. Advocacy & Doorknock Program
- Lead and coordinate the Washington Doorknock program, including preparation, stakeholder engagement, and post-visit follow-up
- Support ongoing U.S.-focused advocacy efforts and relationship building
- Ensure alignment between Taiwan-based policy priorities and U.S. engagement initiatives
Government Relations & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and maintain relationships with Taiwan and U.S. government entities, including central and local authorities
- Engage with executive and legislative branches, regulatory agencies, and relevant institutions
- Build and maintain relationships with business chambers, NGOs, think tanks, and academia
- Facilitate dialogue between members and government stakeholders
Publications & Content Alignment
- Provide strategic direction to ensure alignment between advocacy priorities and the Chamber's publications
- Work closely with the Publications team to support policy-related content development
- Contribute to positioning the Chamber's publications as a platform for policy dialogue and thought leadership
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams including Publications, Membership, and Events to support advocacy-related initiatives
- Ensure coordination across teams to support effective execution of Chamber programs
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or above in political science, international relations, public policy, business, or related fields Advanced degree in a relevant field
- Minimum of 8–10 years of relevant professional experience in government affairs, public policy, or related areas
- Strong understanding of political and regulatory processes in Taiwan and the United States
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Mandarin (written and verbal)
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with senior stakeholders
- Proven leadership experience and ability to manage teams
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant field
- 12+ years of relevant experience
- Experience working with government agencies, think tanks, NGOs, or academic institutions
- Strong understanding of U.S.-Taiwan relations and cross-strait dynamics
- Established network within government and policy communities
