Reporting to Vice President/Senior Counsel of Greater China GCO team, you will be part of the Greater China GCO team, and will primarily support American Express strategy and business in China.
1. Support Legal & Regulatory Strategy. Monitor regulatory themes & development in China which impact American Express and/or American Express Joint Venture in China. This includes for example, network regulation, AML, sanctions, competition and data privacy. Analyse proposed changes to determine impact. Resolve issues of interpretation. Communicate impacts and recommended implementation steps proactively to Amex and China Joint Venture business team, GCO, Compliance and other relevant stakeholders. Advise on implementation issues as required.
2. Support Business Development. Support Amex's China strategy, including for example, strategic partnerships, new product development work and other business initiatives.
3. Manage Business Contracts. Draft, review, negotiate and amend all types of business contracts for Amex and Amex China Joint Venture as applicable. Provide advice and assistance to management on standard agreements and terms and conditions of business or business processes.
4. Manage Dispute Resolution. Provide advice on and management of litigation, disputes and claims as appropriate.Try to seek constructive, win-win solutions in the interests of upholding the American Express brand and shareholder value.
5. Governance. Provide support on governance related initiatives to support effective management of legal and regulatory risk, including support of corporate governance initiatives.
6. General. Provide general guidance and advice to management on legal entity governance, business structuring and all other legal and regulatory matters that arise in a Fortune 500 company.
7. Reporting, administrative and GCO activities.
1. Fluent English & Chinese language skills. Both spoken and written, essential.
2. Communication. First class oral and written communication skills, in particular the ability to analyze & explain complex legal matters clearly and concisely to non-specialists.
3. Professional poise. Maintains grace under pressure and demonstrates theability to impart discipline and calm to stressful situations. Holds their own in live discussions where differing views are expressed. A persuasive advocate who is not afraid to convey unwelcome messages yet lays out a path to practical solutions.
4. A self-starter who takes ownership. Takes the initiative to learn and work independently rather than passively. Sees what needs to be done and then does it. Takes responsibility for understanding and solving problems.
5. Collaboration. Strong ability to engage and collaborate with the relevant stakeholders in Amex and in Amex China Joint Venture.
6. Qualified and admitted/licensed lawyerin China with at least 7 years post-qualification experience in financial services, banking or a related field. Top Tier international law firm experience and/or prior in-house experience with financial institution or multi-national corporation is preferred.
7. Energetic and practical application of legal skills and knowledge to business situations and problems.
8. Manage workload by careful prioritization and personal organization.
