Job Brief
We're looking for an experienced DBA / Database Administrator to own and optimize our database environment, with a strong focus on PostgreSQL performance tuning and bare-metal deployments. This person should be comfortable designing for performance from the ground up — not just at the query or software layer, but across infrastructure, storage, and system configuration. The ideal candidate has deep experience with OLAP workloads, database monitoring and alerting, and proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
Job Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and manage PostgreSQL on bare-metal servers.
- Tune PostgreSQL for high performance, reliability, and scalability across different workloads.
- Optimize databases supporting OLAP / analytical workloads, including schema, indexing, partitioning, and query performance.
- Build and maintain database monitoring, alerting, and performance dashboards.
- Identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks across database, OS, storage, and hardware layers.
- Design and recommend infrastructure for maximum database performance, including storage and server configuration choices.
- Work closely with engineering and infrastructure teams to improve query design, database architecture, and system efficiency.
- Establish best practices for database operation, maintenance, backup, recovery, and capacity planning.
- Continuously review and improve database performance, availability, and operational resilience.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience as a DBA, with deep expertise in PostgreSQL.
- Proven experience with PostgreSQL performance tuning in self-managed or bare-metal environments.
- Experience setting up and operating PostgreSQL outside of cloud-managed services.
- Strong understanding of OLAP systems and performance tuning for analytical workloads.
- Experience building monitoring, alerts, and observability for database environments.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve bottlenecks across queries, indexing, memory, CPU, disk, and I/O.
- Good understanding of infrastructure-level performance optimization, including storage considerations such as NVMe SSDs, throughput, latency, and server tuning.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working hands-on across both database and infrastructure layers.
