Job Title
IBM Z Technical Specialist – Db2 System Programmer (DB2 Systems Programmer)
Job Summary
• Responsible for installing, customizing, and maintaining IBM Z Db2 environments
• Supports HSBC Technology teams with ongoing system expansion and modernization initiatives
• Ensures stability, performance, security, and availability of Db2 systems
• Involved in DB2 upgrades, maintenance, performance optimization, and backup validation
Key Responsibilities
• Install, customize, and maintain DB2 for z/OS and related tools
• Perform DB2 upgrades, maintenance, and functional testing (including backup environments)
• Manage performance monitoring, tuning, and database optimization
• Administer DB2 security, access control, and compliance (RACF/ACF2)
• Support ISV tools from IBM, Broadcom, and CA
• Plan and design database environments and storage structures
• Provide production support, issue resolution, and root cause analysis
• Support disaster recovery planning and execution
• Create and maintain documentation and SOPs
• Coordinate with service centers and business teams for incident management
Technical Skills
• Expertise in DB2 for z/OS installation, customization, and maintenance
• Strong knowledge of SMPE in MVS environments
• In-depth understanding of relational database concepts (DB2 on z/OS)
• Experience with DB2 tools from IBM, Broadcom, and other vendors
• Knowledge of performance tuning, database sizing, system support, and security
• Familiarity with IBM utilities, JCL, access methods, and file structures
• Experience with DB2 monitoring tools
• Knowledge of disaster recovery processes and strategies
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related discipline (preferred)
• 8–12 years of relevant experience in DB2 system programming on mainframes
• Strong understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management)
• Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to work on complex projects
Additional Skills (Preferred)
• REXX programming skills
• Knowledge of CLIST scripting
