Role Overview
We are seeking a Data Center Facility Engineer to join the GMI Global Infrastructure Team to oversee the operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure for GMI global data centers. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, critical thinking skills, and a commitment to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of MEP systems, including HVAC, power distribution, and liquid cooling systems.
- Monitor performance data to optimize energy efficiency and system reliability.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for MEP systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Perform daily operational assessments of all mechanical and electrical equipment, including Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs), through scheduled inspections and logging of critical parameters, such as temperatures, voltages, and currents.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot MEP system failures, coordinating repairs with relevant vendors and modifications as necessary.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of contractors engaged in servicing or preventive maintenance tasks to ensure compliance with established standards and protocols.
- Ensure all MEP systems comply with local codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system changes, and repairs, and prepare reports for management.
- Work closely with other engineering teams to support facility improvements and system upgrades.
- Assist in the planning and execution of facility projects to enhance infrastructure and efficiency within the data center.
- Promote and enforce safety standards in all MEP operations and maintenance activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in facility engineering, preferably within data centers or critical facilities.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment, such as Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), circuit breakers, busway, chillers, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, exhaust fans, Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs), etc.
- Proficiency in building management systems (BMS) and related monitoring tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Experience with energy management systems and sustainability practices.
- Familiarity with industry regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Require on-call status and occasional overtime.
