Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst—Finance Accounting with strong banking finance domain expertise and hands-on data analysis capabilities. The successful candidate will bridge finance, business, and data teams, translating complex finance accounting requirements into clear business processes, data requirements, data models, and reporting solutions.
This role requires strong finance and accounting SME capabilities, including end-to-end business process analysis across P&L, cost allocation, Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP), General Ledger (GL), and financial reporting, alongside close collaboration with data modelers and technology teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a finance accounting SME for banking data, reporting, and transformation initiatives.
- Analyze current and target-state finance and accounting processes, systems, data flows, and reporting requirements.
- Perform detailed analysis across:
- P&L structures and financial performance reporting
- Cost and expense allocation methodologies
- Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP)
- General Ledger, Chart of Accounts, and accounting hierarchies
- Financial management and regulatory reporting data
- Engage Finance stakeholders to understand objectives, pain points, reporting needs, and data dependencies.
- Translate business and functional requirements into data requirements, source-to-target mappings, business rules, data definitions, logical data models, and reporting specifications.
- Collaborate with data modelers, data engineers, architects, and developers to ensure finance requirements are accurately reflected in enterprise data platforms and models.
- Use SQL for data profiling, reconciliation, validation, root-cause analysis, and investigation of finance data issues.
- Analyze data lineage from source systems through accounting/reporting platforms to downstream finance reports.
- Support reconciliation between source systems, sub-ledgers, GL, management reporting, and analytical platforms.
- Define and validate finance KPIs, measures, dimensions, hierarchies, and calculation methodologies.
- Support the design, enhancement, and validation of finance reporting suites and dashboards.
- Identify data quality issues and work with business and technology teams on remediation and controls.
- Produce business process flows, data mappings, functional specifications, and analysis documentation.
- Support UAT by defining test scenarios, validating financial calculations, reconciling results, and coordinating issue resolution.
- Communicate complex finance and data concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of experience as a finance accounting SME, finance data analyst, business data analyst, or similar role within banking/financial services.
- Strong knowledge of P&L, financial performance reporting, cost allocation, FTP, GL structures, Chart of Accounts, accounting hierarchies, and finance reporting processes.
- Proven experience in business process analysis, beyond technical data querying.
- Strong hands-on SQL skills for data analysis, profiling, reconciliation, and validation.
- Ability to translate business requirements into data models, mappings, business rules, and reporting specifications.
- Experience with finance accounting data models, data warehouses, data marts, or enterprise data platforms.
- Experience with finance accounting reporting and management reporting solutions.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, PivotTables, reconciliation, and analytical modeling.
- Experience working with data modelers to define entities, attributes, relationships, dimensions, hierarchies, and financial measures.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder management, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, CA, or equivalent are advantageous.
- Experience with banking finance transformation, finance data platforms, or finance data warehouse programs.
- Familiarity with dimensional modeling, logical/physical data modeling, and data lineage.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or similar BI/reporting tools.
- Exposure to data governance, metadata management, data quality, and finance data controls.
