Job Description

Job Purpose

The Credit Analyst - Senior Specialist is responsible for providing credit analysis support for the Bank's borrowing clients under Corporate Banking. The client portfolio currently covers sectors including Aviation, Shipping, Financial Institutions, Middle Market, and General Corporates in Singapore.

The role supports the credit decision-making process through detailed financial analysis, credit report preparation, financial projections, sector research, and close coordination with Corporate Banking and Credit Risk stakeholders.

Responsibilities / Key Focus Areas

1. Credit Analysis and Financial Assessment

  • Conduct detailed credit analysis on corporate banking clients to assess their financial strength, business performance, repayment capacity, and overall creditworthiness.
  • Analyze historical and current financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and key financial ratios.
  • Evaluate borrowers profitability, liquidity, leverage, cash flow generation, debt servicing ability, and financial stability.
  • Identify key credit risks, financial trends, weaknesses, and mitigating factors that may impact the borrower's credit profile.
  • Assess clients across various sectors, including Aviation, Shipping, Financial Institutions, Middle Market, and General Corporates.

2. Financial Modelling, Forecasting, and Projections

  • Prepare financial models and projections based on reasonable, supportable, and well-documented assumptions.
  • Review and assess financial forecasts provided by clients or Relationship Managers to determine their reasonableness and reliability.
  • Analyze projected cash flows, repayment sources, debt servicing capacity, and sensitivity to key business or market assumptions.
  • Provide forward-looking analysis to support credit applications, renewals, annual reviews, and other credit-related submissions.

3. Credit Report Writing and Credit Decision Support

  • Prepare clear, comprehensive, and well-structured credit analysis reports for credit decision-making.
  • Summarize key financial findings, credit risks, repayment capacity, industry outlook, and recommended credit considerations.
  • Ensure credit papers are supported by sound analysis, relevant data, and appropriate risk assessment.
  • Support the credit approval process by providing timely responses to queries from Credit Reviewers, Credit Risk Team, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure credit submissions comply with the Bank's internal credit policies, procedures, and documentation standards.

4. Stakeholder Coordination and Business Support

  • Work closely with Relationship Managers and Assistant Relationship Managers in Corporate Banking to obtain financial information, clarify client details, and validate forecast assumptions.
  • Coordinate with the Corporate Banking team to review financial forecasts, business updates, and borrower information.
  • Liaise with Credit Reviewers and the Credit Risk Team to address questions, provide additional analysis, and support credit approval discussions.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth credit processing and timely completion of credit reviews.
  • Communicate credit observations clearly and professionally to relevant stakeholders.

5. Sector and Industry Analysis

  • Conduct sectoral and industry research to support credit assessments and portfolio monitoring.
  • Analyze market trends, industry developments, competitive conditions, regulatory changes, and external risks affecting the Bank's borrowing clients.
  • Provide insights into sector outlook and key industry risks for sectors such as Aviation, Shipping, Financial Institutions, Middle Market, and General Corporates.
  • Incorporate relevant industry analysis into credit reports to support a balanced view of borrower risk.

6. Portfolio and Risk Monitoring Support

  • Assist in monitoring borrower performance, financial covenants, credit triggers, and changes in credit risk profile.
  • Highlight emerging risks, deteriorating financial performance, or material changes in borrower circumstances.
  • Support periodic credit reviews, renewals, and ad-hoc credit assessments as required.
  • Maintain a strong standard of accuracy, timeliness, and analytical quality in credit work.

7. Workload Management and Timely Delivery

  • Manage multiple credit cases and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced banking environment.
  • Prioritize urgent credit submissions while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to meet tight turnaround times.
  • Demonstrate strong ownership, accountability, and discipline in managing assigned credit analysis responsibilities.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant credit analysis experience within banking, corporate banking, commercial banking, credit risk, or audit.
  • Candidates with stronger experience, particularly around 8 years or more, may be considered for mid-level / Deputy Manager level opportunities.
  • Prior credit writing experience is required, preferably within corporate banking.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statement analysis, financial modelling, and credit risk assessment.
  • Ability to assess corporate borrowers financial performance, repayment capacity, business risks, and industry risks.
  • Experience covering Middle Market, Financial Institutions, or General Corporate clients will be viewed favorably.
  • Good understanding of corporate banking lending structures, credit approval processes, credit documentation, and risk management practices.
  • Strong credit report writing skills with the ability to prepare clear, structured, and well-supported credit papers.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence, persuade, and engage effectively with internal stakeholders, including Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, and senior management.
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English and Chinese, as the role requires liaison with Chinese-speaking headquarters counterparties.
  • Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents are preferred.
  • Candidates who are available within one month or less will be prioritized.
  • Fresh graduates with relevant credit analysis internship experience may be considered for junior-level opportunities.
