Computer Technician IIThe Institute of Mathematical Sciences is seeking a Computer Technician II to provide robust IT support for departmental operations. Key duties encompass network and infrastructure management, server administration, web development, hardware/software troubleshooting, user support, and ad-hoc tasks.The appointee will be responsible for (a) maintaining and configuring the Institute's network, IT infrastructure, Linux servers, network equipment, and firewalls (b) supporting server migrations, application deployments, and in-house web application development (c) installing, configuring, upgrading, diagnosing, and resolving hardware/software issues for computers and peripherals (d) managing user accounts, access permissions, and providing technical support to staff and students and (e) undertaking additional tasks as required to ensure seamless IT operations.Applicants should have (i) a Higher Diploma or a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline from a recognised university or technical institute (ii) proven experience in system administration involving application software, servers, and databases (iii) strong capability of creating high-quality UI and UX designs for web applications and (iv) excellent communication and presentation skills, with a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua). Having experience in the following areas will be advantageous: (1) managing Microsoft Windows and Linux servers (2) setting up and maintaining network and firewall equipment (3) HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, with familiarity in frameworks, such as React, Vue.js, or Angular (4) responsive web design and UX/UI principles (5) Node.js, PHP, or Python, and server-side frameworks such as Django or Laravel and (6) database administration using SQL, MySQL, or NoSQL.Appointment will initially be made on a 1-year contract, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.The University only accepts and considers applications submitted online for the post above via the CUHK career site. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a public research university in Shatin, Hong Kong, formally established in 1963 by a charter granted by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. It is the territory's second-oldest university and was founded as a federation of three existing colleges – Chung Chi College, New Asia College and United College – the oldest of which was founded in 1949.
CUHK is organized into nine constituent colleges and eight academic faculties, and remains the only collegiate university in the territory. The university operates in both English and Chinese, although classes in most colleges are taught in English. Four Nobel laureates are associated with the university, and it is the only tertiary institution in Hong Kong with recipients of the Nobel Prize, Turing Award, Fields Medal and Veblen Prize sitting as faculty in residence.
