Computer Technician II(s) (carrying the job title of IT Support Specialist)
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, working with more than 200 ophthalmologists and visual scientists in Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland, is committed to advancing patient service, research, and training and education to the highest quality in all major areas of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. We are also dedicated to worthwhile community programmes and public education projects. The Department, always in search of excellence, is looking for candidates to take up positions in our clinical and research (academic, community and translational) programmes involving ophthalmic investigations, public education, out-reach, and ophthalmic studies on disease entities including, ocular surface diseases, refractive surgeries, ocular cancers, dry eye disease, thyroid eye diseases, glaucoma, children eye diseases, autoimmune diseases and retina diseases. We are highly committed to supporting career development of all staff members.
The appointee(s) will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality IT services. Duties include (a) delivering Tier 1/2 IT support for academic and administrative users while driving the adoption of emerging technical solutions (b) managing the endpoint hardware lifecycle, encompassing OS imaging, automated deployment, break-fix maintenance, asset management, and procurement (c) enforcing ITSC security compliance by administering SCCM, MDM, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and rigorous patch management (d) co-administering hybrid server infrastructure, VoIP telecommunications, and network services in coordination with the central Information Technology Services Centre and (e) supporting access control systems and provide flexible on-site and after-hours technical coverage for university events.
Applicants should have (i) a Diploma in IT disciplines or equivalent plus 2 years relevant work experience experience in tertiary institutes is an advantage (ii) a collaborative, stakeholder-savvy approach: the ability to translate technical issues into clear actions, align expectations, and coordinate effectively with users and relevant parties to ensure end-to-end delivery (iii) a proactive, improvement-driven service mindset: going beyond closing tickets to find root causes, reduce repeat issues, and streamline/automate processes to deliver smarter ways of working (iv) a curious, experimental builder mindset: keen to explore emerging technologies (including AI), prototype and iterate lightweight pilots with users, and turn new ideas into safe, practical workflows that drive adoption and (v) purpose and mission alignment: committed to the vision of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and to advancing health science development in Hong Kong, so that technology can meaningfully support better care, stronger research, and broader community impact.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to 2 years (with contract-end gratuity for a 2-year contract) commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a public research university in Shatin, Hong Kong, formally established in 1963 by a charter granted by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong.
