Our client is seeking a qualified Compliance Officer to join their Hong Kong office. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring firm-wide compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and professional standards.
Responsibilities:
| Regulatory compliance & monitoring |
- Monitor changes to relevant laws, regulations, and Law Society of Hong Kong requirements, and provide timely internal guidance to ensure firm-wide compliance.
- Conduct periodic risk assessments and prepare management reports.
- Handle internal compliance incidents, complaints and regulatory queries.
- Coordinate with external advisors and regulators under direction of Partners.
| Client onboarding & conflicts |
- Perform KYC/CDD checks and ongoing monitoring in accordance with AML/CFT regulations.
- Assist in conflict checks, intake procedures and maintenance of records.
- Escalate higher‑risk matters in consultation with management partners.
- Draft and update compliance manuals, guidelines and procedures.
- Coordinate and deliver training (AML, sanctions, data privacy, anti‑bribery, professional conduct) to lawyers and staff to ensure all aware of the updates/changes.
| Data privacy & information security |
- Support data protection and privacy compliance (including Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance).
- Work with IT and operations to promote information security best practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB or equivalent)
- A minimum of 2 years of legal experience, with exposure to compliance, risk management, and/or regulatory matters, preferably within a law firm setting.
- Strong knowledge of Hong Kong's legal and regulatory framework, with sound knowledge of and compliance with the Law Society of Hong Kong's rules, regulations, and professional conduct requirements.
- Professional compliance certification of ICA, ACAMS, or an equivalent qualification, is preferred.
- Knowledge of AML/CTF regulations and compliance best practices.
- A high level of discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to details.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Cantonese (Mandarin is an advantage)
