Job Description

Our client is seeking a qualified Compliance Officer to join their Hong Kong office. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring firm-wide compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and professional standards.

Responsibilities:

Regulatory compliance & monitoring
  1. Monitor changes to relevant laws, regulations, and Law Society of Hong Kong requirements, and provide timely internal guidance to ensure firm-wide compliance.
  2. Conduct periodic risk assessments and prepare management reports.
  3. Handle internal compliance incidents, complaints and regulatory queries.
  4. Coordinate with external advisors and regulators under direction of Partners.
Client onboarding & conflicts
  1. Perform KYC/CDD checks and ongoing monitoring in accordance with AML/CFT regulations.
  2. Assist in conflict checks, intake procedures and maintenance of records.
  3. Escalate higher‑risk matters in consultation with management partners.
Policies & training
  1. Draft and update compliance manuals, guidelines and procedures.
  2. Coordinate and deliver training (AML, sanctions, data privacy, anti‑bribery, professional conduct) to lawyers and staff to ensure all aware of the updates/changes.
Data privacy & information security
  1. Support data protection and privacy compliance (including Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance).
  2. Work with IT and operations to promote information security best practices.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB or equivalent)
  2. A minimum of 2 years of legal experience, with exposure to compliance, risk management, and/or regulatory matters, preferably within a law firm setting.
  3. Strong knowledge of Hong Kong's legal and regulatory framework, with sound knowledge of and compliance with the Law Society of Hong Kong's rules, regulations, and professional conduct requirements.
  4. Professional compliance certification of ICA, ACAMS, or an equivalent qualification, is preferred.
  5. Knowledge of AML/CTF regulations and compliance best practices.
  6. A high level of discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  7. Excellent analytical skills and attention to details.
  8. Excellent communication skills in English and Cantonese (Mandarin is an advantage)
