Amid extreme volatility in the currency market, a surge of flows into exchange-traded funds and a boom in technology stocks, news on Taiwan's financial markets is gaining even more importance. From its bureau in Taipei, Bloomberg reporters and editors cover every twist and turn for both a local and global audience, in Chinese and English languages.
We are currently expanding, with an opening for a reporter on our Chinese-language news service. Based in Taipei, you will join a team that tracks government bonds, currencies and money markets across Greater China. In this role, you'll mainly be responsible for covering Taiwan's fixed-income and foreign-exchange markets, breaking news and writing smart analysis and features.
The position involves tracking movements in those markets, cultivating sources and digging into financial data to break news -- and using your story-telling skills to help Bloomberg's local and global users follow what's really happening in Taiwan. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of different asset classes in Taiwan and be able to work closely with teammates, editors and English-language colleagues in the bureau and across Asia.
We'll Trust You To
- Use your knowledge of financial markets to write with authority and insight about risks and opportunities across asset classes in Taiwan
- Work independently and collaboratively on idea generation and news reporting
- Exercise solid news judgement in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Take the initiative to build sources at banks, securities firms, underwriters, insurers and the central bank in order to explain markets and deliver scoops
- Collaborate across bureaus and teams through proactive communication
You'll Need To Have
- At least 2 years of experience in journalism or finance
- Solid knowledge and understanding of Taiwan's economy and financial markets as well as the dynamics that move domestic and international assets- Fluency in Chinese, solid Chinese writing skills plus the ability to communicate in English
- A proven track record of breaking news and interpreting data or policy moves
- A strong work ethic and the ability to write quickly, concisely and accurately under tight deadline pressure
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
