Job Description

Reporting to the CFO, the Business Controller will support the Group's strategic finance and growth agenda, with a focus on M&A, investment evaluation, financial due diligence, business case development, financial modelling, performance management and governance.

The successful candidate should be commercially sharp, analytically strong and able to provide clear financial recommendations while ensuring sound governance, control and compliance discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the CFO in evaluating M&A opportunities, strategic investments, joint ventures, partnerships, new business models and major commercial initiatives.
  • Conduct financial due diligence on potential acquisition targets, develop and review financial models, valuation analyses, business cases, scenario analyses and sensitivity assessments to support investment and strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare investment papers, management presentations and Board papers to support approval of major transactions and strategic initiatives.
  • Act as a strategic finance partner to business units on major commercial decisions by providing financial challenge, investment discipline and recommendations on financial viability.
  • Support finance-related governance matters, including review of approval papers, financial delegations, control gaps, risk areas and compliance with internal policies.
  • Coordinate with internal auditors on internal audit reviews, management responses, remediation plans and follow-up actions.
  • Manage treasury-related matters linked to strategic investments and major projects, including cash flow impact, funding requirements, banking relationships and deposit optimisation.
  • Build organisational capability in business case preparation, financial modelling, investment evaluation, governance discipline, internal controls and post-investment review.
  • Support ad hoc strategic projects, transformation initiatives and special assignments as required by the CFO.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance, MBA/CPA/CFA or its equivalent
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in corporate finance, M&A, transaction advisory, investment evaluation, strategic finance, business controlling, governance, internal controls, compliance or commercial finance.
  • Prior experience in M&A, valuation, financial due diligence, corporate development, transaction advisory, internal audit or Big 4 audit/advisory will be advantageous.
  • Strong financial modelling capability, with ability to assess investment returns, deal viability, sensitivities, risks and commercial implications.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to connect financial analysis with commercial strategy, deal execution, governance requirements and operational realities.
  • Good understanding of accounting, tax, treasury, governance, controls and risk considerations in transactions and major business decisions.
  • Ability to prepare clear management papers, investment papers, Board papers and presentation materials.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and presentation skills, with confidence engaging senior management and cross-functional teams.
  • Highly analytical, structured and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, fluid and dynamic environment.
  • Prior experience across both public and private sectors will be an added advantage.
