Job Description

Company:

Qualcomm Semiconductor Limited

Job Area:

Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Systems Engineering

General Summary:

We are looking for an experienced engineer to drive algorithm development, image quality tuning, optimization, and validation for automotive camera 2A functions, with a primary focus on AEC and/or AWB, and experience in related areas such as color, HDR, and tone algorithms. This role involves developing robust image quality solutions for automotive camera systems, evaluating performance across challenging real-world conditions, and working cross-functionally to take solutions from concept through integration, validation, and product commercialization.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of camera systems, image quality evaluation, and image processing algorithms, and is comfortable working in complex architectures to debug issues, improve robustness, and meet demanding automotive performance and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, tune, and optimize AEC and/or AWB algorithms for automotive camera systems on Qualcomm platforms.
  • Design, develop, validate, and deploy image quality solutions for automotive use cases, including driver monitoring, occupant monitoring, surround view, and front-facing camera systems.
  • Improve image quality performance in challenging conditions such as HDR scenes, low light, mixed illuminants, LED/flicker environments, and wide dynamic range scenarios.
  • Build and enhance image quality evaluation systems and methodologies to measure objective and subjective image quality metrics for automotive camera applications.
  • Optimize and debug solutions within complex camera and ISP architectures to meet image quality, latency, CPU, and system-level requirements.
  • Support multi-camera synchronization and improve the convergence speed, stability, consistency, and robustness of AEC/AWB behavior.
  • Analyze sensor, ISP, and tuning interactions, including dependencies related to lens shading, black level, companding, color correction, and tone mapping.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system, ISP, sensor, software, validation, and customer engineering teams, to ensure successful feature integration and verification.
  • Support camera bring-up, feature verification, issue triage, and field problem debugging during development and commercialization phases.
  • Drive technical work from initial concept through development, validation, release, and commercialization.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, tuning reports, validation results, and development records to support product quality and automotive process expectations.
  • Support customer programs and product execution; occasional travel or collaboration across time zones may be required.
  • 60%–80% workload for customer support; 20% onsite availability for business travel across APAC and China.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in camera systems, image tuning, systems engineering, software engineering, or related areas.
  • Hands-on experience with AEC and/or AWB, and familiarity with related areas such as color science, image processing, HDR, or tone algorithms.
  • Strong understanding of camera systems, image quality evaluation metrics, and camera tuning and validation workflows.
  • Experience debugging and optimizing image quality issues in complex camera pipelines.
  • Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and/or MATLAB for algorithm development, analysis, and validation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Working knowledge of Linux development and debugging environments.
  • Good communication skills in English; Chinese communication ability is a plus for cross-site collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive camera tuning or validation.
  • Strong hands-on experience in AEC/AWB tuning, tuning strategy development, and image quality optimization.
  • Familiarity with objective and subjective image quality assessment methodologies.
  • Understanding of image sensor characteristics, optical systems, and ISP pipeline behavior.
  • Experience with HDR, wide-gamut or video color formats, flicker/LED handling, and related image quality challenges.
  • Familiarity with Qualcomm camera tools and workflows, including platforms involving ISP-based tuning and validation.
  • Experience with special sensor types or automotive-relevant camera configurations, such as RGB-IR, RCCG, or multi-camera systems.
  • Exposure to sensor calibration, color calibration, computer vision, machine learning, or Android-based camera integration.
  • Familiarity with automotive-specific requirements such as fast convergence, multi-camera consistency, robustness, low latency, CPU efficiency, and quality- and safety-oriented development processes.
  • A self-driven and collaborative working style, with the ability to operate effectively across teams and project phases.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
