Associate Director / Director, FATCA & CRS

The Associate Director / Director, FATCA & CRS is a senior leadership role within Asia Financial Crime Compliance, responsible for providing strategic direction, oversight, and advisory leadership for the FATCA and CRS framework across both the Asia LifeCo Segment and GWAM businesses in Asia.

The role works in close partnership with Compliance teams, Operations, and Business Units across LifeCo and GWAM to ensure FATCA/CRS requirements are embedded effectively across the client lifecycle, including onboarding, event‑triggered reviews, and periodic reviews, in a manner that is regulatorily sound, operationally practical, and supportive of business objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

1. FATCA/CRS Framework Leadership, Policy & Quality Oversight

  • Provide regional leadership and strategic oversight for the FATCA/CRS framework across Asia, covering both LifeCo and GWAM businesses, including policies, procedures, and QA standards.

  • Partner with Compliance, Operations, and Business Units to shape policy interpretation and implementation approaches aligned to Global standards while reflecting business differences.

  • Ensure FATCA/CRS roles, responsibilities, and controls are clearly articulated across first and second line teams.

  • Promote knowledge sharing, coaching, and sustainable quality improvement.

  • What success looks like: A well‑governed FATCA/CRS framework consistently applied across Asia LifeCo and GWAM.

2. Advisory Leadership - Client Onboarding, Event‑Triggered & Periodic Reviews

  • Provide senior‑level advisory support on FATCA/CRS matters arising from onboarding, event‑triggered reviews, and periodic reviews.

  • Support proportionate, consistent decision‑making on complex or higher‑risk FATCA/CRS cases.

  • Act as an escalation point for material interpretation matters and cross‑border considerations.

  • What success looks like: Clear, pragmatic FATCA/CRS advice enabling consistent outcomes and reduced rework.

3. Regional BAU Reporting, Governance & Oversight

  • Provide senior oversight of FATCA/CRS reporting, advisory, and governance activities across Asia for LifeCo and GWAM.

  • Set expectations for reporting methodologies, validation, escalation, and stakeholder communication.

  • Oversee management information and dashboards for senior management and governance forums.

  • What success looks like: Predictable, well‑controlled FATCA/CRS reporting supported by strong cross‑stakeholder collaboration.

4. FATCA / CRS Strategic Projects & Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Act as the Asia senior lead for significant FATCA and CRS‑related strategic initiatives and regulatory change projects, representing LifeCo and GWAM interests in Global and cross‑functional forums.

  • Work closely with Compliance, Operations, Technology, and Business Units to set regional priorities, delivery strategies, and implementation approaches.

  • Translate evolving FATCA/CRS requirements and global standards into clear, practical, and actionable guidance across differing business models and client bases.

  • Drive cross‑functional coordination to identify gaps, clarify accountabilities, and align delivery plans for regulatory uplift and strategic change initiatives.

  • Sponsor project working groups, communications, and engagement activities across markets.

  • What success looks like: FATCA/CRS‑related strategic initiatives delivered in a coordinated, well‑governed, and sustainable manner with minimal reactive escalation.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial crime compliance, tax reporting, or regulatory advisory roles

  • Strong hands‑on FATCA and CRS expertise, including senior advisory support across the client lifecycle

  • Big 4 FATCA/CRS advisory experience (strongly preferred)

  • Experience within insurance, wealth management, asset management, or banking (highly desirable)

  • A leader with strong regulatory judgment, a pragmatic, business‑enabling mindset, and an inclusive, collaborative leadership style aligned with Manulife values

  • Candidates with relatively less experience but strong capability and potential may be considered at the Associate Director level.

  • Big 4 FATCA/CRS advisory experience (strongly preferred)

  • Experience within insurance, wealth management, asset management, or banking (highly desirable)

  • A leader with strong regulatory judgment, a pragmatic, business‑enabling mindset, and an inclusive, collaborative leadership style aligned with Manulife values

  • Candidates with relatively less experience but strong capability and potential may be considered at the Associate Director level.
