Job Description

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Library is seeking a forward-thinking and technically skilled professional to play a key role in advancing the Library's digital transformation strategy. This position will lead initiatives to integrate emerging digital technologies, support data-driven research services, and enhance the Library's capacity to deliver innovative, user-centered solutions aligned with the evolving needs of the University.Reporting to the Head of Digital Initiatives, the appointee will be assigned to Digital Initiatives in CUHK Library. Duties include:
(a) leading and embedding digital service improvement and change management processes across the Library
(b) developing and managing the Library's digital initiatives, including the delivery of change and innovation as articulated in the department's strategic objectives
(c) taking lead in introducing and implementing cutting-edge digital technologies in the Library
(d) building up the Library's capacity to manage technically complex projects in support of digital research
(e) performing both support and developer responsibilities in digital technologies that should evolve with the needs of the Library
(f) full life-cycle development of Web and software applications, including collecting user requirements, designing solutions, programming code development, implementation, and maintenance
(g) collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to establish technical standards, best practices, and interdisciplinary development opportunities
(h) managing the operations of digitisation and digital repository services, ensuring compliance with standards, timely delivery, and alignment with institutional priorities and
(i) other tasks as assigned.

Shift duties in the evenings, at weekends or on holidays at library helpdesks are required.Applicants should have (i) a good University degree, preferably in computer science, software engineering or equivalent plus a postgraduate qualification in librarianship and information science, or related discipline (ii) normally three years of post-qualification relevant experience at a professional or senior paraprofessional level (iii) demonstrated ability in digital tools and Web application development including open-source software development, digital visualisation design, and agile development methodology (iv) working knowledge of Python, and preferably an understanding of Linux or Windows operating systems (v) familiarity with text-mining, computer vision and other emerging digital technologies (vi) proven ability to lead or support digital transformation initiatives, including change management and the promotion of digital scholarship and innovation culture and (vii) excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in Chinese and English is desirable. Hands-on experience in managing digitisation projects with strong knowledge in digitisation standards and specifications is also preferable.Appointment will initially be made on a contract basis for two years, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
