About the opportunity

Our client is a global energy technology organisation supporting utilities, infrastructure providers and industrial customers with advanced power and grid solutions.

They are seeking an experienced Area Sales Manager to drive the growth of their transformer business in Singapore. This is an individual-contributor role responsible for developing new opportunities, managing strategic customer accounts and leading the complete sales process from opportunity identification through contract closure.

The successful candidate will join the Singapore Transformers Sales team and report to the local Sales Manager or Business Leader. You will work closely with regional sales, tendering, project management, engineering and service teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales strategies for the transformer business in Singapore.
  • Identify new opportunities across utilities, power, energy, EPC, infrastructure and industrial sectors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key customers, consultants, contractors and other industry stakeholders.
  • Manage the full sales cycle, including lead qualification, opportunity development, proposal preparation, commercial negotiation and order closure.
  • Understand customer requirements and coordinate with technical and tendering teams to develop suitable commercial and technical solutions.
  • Manage key accounts and develop account plans to support long-term business growth.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, forecasts and opportunity records.
  • Monitor market developments, competitor activity and emerging customer requirements.
  • Achieve agreed sales, order intake and profitability targets.
  • Support a smooth handover of secured projects to project management and execution teams.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or a related discipline with sales and marketing experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in sales or business development within the energy, electrical, power, or related industries, preferably with knowledge of primary equipment such as transformers.
  • Strong understanding of the Singapore market, with an established customer network and proven ability to develop long-term customer relationships.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and developing successful sales plans within a competitive environment.
  • Proficient in analyzing market trends, customer feedback, and performance metrics to inform decision making and strategy adjustments.
  • Strong understanding of energy products, systems, and market dynamics, with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively. Proficient in Salesforce application.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English with the ability to build relationships, conduct effective presentations, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of the Singapore market, including customer landscape, industry trends, and key stakeholder networks.
  • Candidates from the medium-voltage or switchgear sector may also be considered if they have substantial exposure to transformer products, applications and customers.
